I do most all of my shopping at Consumer’s IGA. They’re usually cheaper and, in my opinion, the quality of food (especially meats!) is better than the competition in town–the two Super-Walmarts. For example, milk has always been cheaper at Consumer’s. Most of the time you can catch milk on sale for $2.99 per gallon. Milk at Walmart in comparison is almost always $1 more. Even though I live less than a mile away from Walmart, and Consumers is a drive into town, I’ll always plan to get milk at Consumer’s. I believe everyone else was doing this, too. And what do I see when I drop by Walmart to pick up some cocoa for my lifegroup tonight? Milk for $2.99 per gallon. And to think…would they have had any reason to drop the price if there was no competition?

This is just terrible.
BAGHDAD (AP) – Two mentally retarded women strapped with remote-control explosives—and possibly used as unwitting suicide bombers—brought carnage Friday to two pet bazaars, killing at 73 people in the deadliest day since Washington flooded the capital with extra troops last spring.

I wasn’t very impressed with the CNN Republican “Debate” last night. It was more like “let’s chat with McCain and Romney.” Huckabee and Ron Paul hardly ever got the chance to speak!

Lots of snow in Stillwater today. Crazy that it was sunny and 60 degrees less than a week ago.

It’s getting into the semester where there will be papers and projects due, some (or most) of which will be carried around on USB drives. Make sure to back up that data! Last semester I was caught in a bad spot because my drive had died and my backup was a month or so old, so now I make sure to backup my drive at least weekly. I use Microsoft’s SyncToy to (almost) automatically back up my data. Coupled with Launchy (which is a great, time saving tool anyways), I’m always only a couple keystrokes away to backing up my drive.

It looks like food prices are on their way up. Kind of sad:
All the indicators, the prices of every food staple, are on the up – wheat doubled in price at one point last year. ‘It’s something the industry has expected and is thus, hopefully, a manageable cycle,’ he says. ‘No hunger riots. But we have enjoyed food prosperity for a long time, and we’re seeing the end of that.’
Also, ethanol is part of the problem, too.
Ethanol, a diesel-type fuel made from plants, must bear a lot of the blame. Since George Bush announced a rush to corn-based ethanol it’s done well for American corn farmers – 20 per cent of whose harvest, subsidised by the government, went into fuel tanks rather than flour mills this year. Bush’s taste for corn-based ethanol is based partly on trying to break the US’s reliance on Middle East oil suppliers, and partly on a (largely misplaced) faith in its ecological credentials. (Its increasingly voluble critics claim that growing grain and then transforming it into ethanol requires more energy from fossil fuels than ethanol generates.)

I’m pretty proud of this year’s artwork. You can see a temporary page up now, more will come as I have time to fully develop the website later.

Just in case anyone wants to look at my homework, I’m testing WordPress and how it handles PDFs. I made some scans of my homework since Sarah and I share a book. Here they are if anyone wants them. Combinatorial HW2. I’m sure I’ll get in trouble for this

I thought our first (second) lifegroup meeting went really well tonight. We started discussing Jesus Camp and had quite a few varying responses. It’s a good group to be a part of and if you’re in the area on a Tuesday night, check us out.
